Five for Friday: 7-18-14

I can't believe another week on my preciously short summer is over.  I tried to make the most of it, though and I love linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share my 5 random items from the week.

So last week I wrote about introducing my daughter to the beloved Disney Princess.  I'm thinking I might regret that decision as the first thing she does every morning is grab the remote and ask for "Belle". She also finds princesses at every store we go to.
She also can do a little Ariel singing that is beyond precious.  I'm working on getting it on video.
Here she is at a party supply story in awe of all the princess items!

Another little girl moment... I took her to get her first real big girl haircut.  We went to a salon that works pretty exclusively with kids and they were awesome!
She sat in the little fire engine seat and got about 2 inches cut off to give her a cute bob.
Here is the actual hair getting cut.

Here was our souvenir from her first hair cut.

She looks like she's three now!!!!

Holy July Crazy Cool weather!!!
These were our temps yesterday!
If I didn't know any better, I'd swear it was October! We've had the air off and the windows open most nights this week.  Amazing but totally crazy!!!!  It won't last long as the temps are supposed to be up into the upper 90's next week!

I thought I'd report back in on our chore chart from last week.
This was the chart my hubby made during a training almost two weeks ago.

I decided it needed an upgrade and some items added and deleted.  I made this,

and I can just say that we are rocking the checkmarks!  For some reason, those checkmarks are big motivators for both of us and it is helping immensely with keeping our house picked up!

I got to meet up with Krissanna from Simply Secondary this week!

She was so sweet and cut out some vinyl for me so I could complete my eraser gumball machine!
I love the sparkly letters!  They are so cute!
Isn't she so sweet!  Driving 8 hours total just for me... well and some PD.

Only one week left of summer!  I'm going to soak it up!
And try to beat my new top score!

Five for Friday

WOW!!!!  It has been such a LONG week, but isn't testing week always super long?  I'm so glad it's Friday and that I am headed towards a relaxing weekend.  It's been awhile since I've had my act together together to link up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for Five for Friday but today is that day!!!!

TESTING IS OVER!!!!!
Last year's test released items!  I have no idea of course what was on this year's test
We have 4 days of testing here in Arkansas over reading, writing, and math. My kiddos finished testing yesterday and boy does it feel good!  I ripped down all the chart paper covering my classroom as soon as we finished the test. My feet and back are tired from all the walking, too!

I've been working hard on my reading over the past few weeks.  I've read two more of the Charlie May Simon books and now I'm reading Junonia by Kevin Henkes.
After I finish this book, I'll only have 3 left!  They've already put out next year's list, so maybe I'll get started earlier!
My kids have started giving me books to read now, which I love!

I wrote about completing the Hour of Code with my students here back in December.  Well since we didn't really have much of an afternoon any day this week, I decided that we would code with our extra time.  My kids LOVE it and it's so good for their problem solving skills!  I also got back into code, because the kids were getting ahead of me and I couldn't have that!

Tuesday, was my hubby's birthday!  He's 6 months older than me and I love to rub it in his face!!! He's OLD!!!! And by old I mean 27!!! LOL!  We had a chill night of Chicago Style pizza and a movie at home.

My sweet little girl had her 15 month check up yesterday.  I can't believe how big she is getting or how long her hair is getting!  She's in the 9th percentile.  Dr. says she's in perfect health and was impressed by how many words she knows, that she uses sign language, and that she can walk on her tip toes!  I love being her mommy!

Five for Friday {1-7-14}

Well, this was a very short week for me with 3 snow day! I'm still exhausted though!  I'm going to do a hybrid Five for Friday with Doodle Bugs Teaching of the last two weeks since I didn't link up last week!

Here is my house covered in snow from Sunday.  We got snow Sunday, Monday, and a little on Tuesday.  The roads were super icy and so we were out until Wednesday.

The little one and I made it outside on Monday when the sun came out for a little while and made a mini snowman!

I got to do some fun Pinterest activities with my little girl during all of our snow days.
Here she is painting.

Playing with fabric scraps in an old wipes container.  Tons of fun!

We have been working on our government lapbooks for a couple of weeks now, with so many other things going on it's taking us a while to finish them.  Last week, I had my students jigsaw the reading for this foldable.  Each person at a table took one page to read and took three important notes on their foldable.  Each group got together to compare notes and then each person shared their notes at their table.  Great cooperative learning!

Even though I teach math, I still like to read the books the kids are reading.  We have an Arkansas book award called the Charlie May Simon Award that 4th-6th graders vote on.  In order to vote, the students have to have read at least 4 of the titles.  I am working on reading all of the nominees before the end of the year.  I finished my 3rd book last week and started book four!  Here are all the titles with the ones I've finished crossed out. I started Eight Keys a couple of nights ago.  I've been told it's a tear jerker!

Valentines' Party!  We had our party today because we will be on February intercession all next week. (We petitioned to make up snow days instead but lost that battle). My kids made out with quite the haul!
They also made this cute project!

These are the Valentines I made for our two classes.  Aren't they cute?

I've put these and two other versions of teacher valentines in my TpT store for those of you who need Valentines for next week!  They will be half off through Sunday night!

What have you been up to this week?

Five for Friday {1-17-14}

Wow!  Working for five days in a row is hard work!!!! I know many of you had snow/cold days this week, but none here!  We had some cold days but no snow!  I am so glad that it is Friday! I'm linking up today with Doodle Bugs Teaching for her weekly link up Five for Friday!

I am so excited to be hosting a Jamberry Party! Christi Fultz is my consultant and a wonderful one at that! The party is entirely online and I love if you ordered some nail wraps and listed me, Rissa Webber as your host!  If you don't know what these little things are, then you need to go check out the Jamberry website!

Here is a sample on my ring finger.
After 5 days, here's the difference between the polished nails and my Jam nail.  No contest!

These are the Jams that I ordered and will using this weekend!

One of the standards we've been tackling this week is Elapsed Time.  I taught elapsed time through a Problem of the Day.  I did a mini lesson with my students on Monday about the different types of elapsed time problems.  We did an example problem each day.  Some kids had a hard time not using "regular" subtraction and addition with time.  Here is the anchor chart we used for the week courtesy of Teaching with a Mountain View!

This week, we spent the bulk of our time on geometry concepts using Learn Zillion and Jennifer Findley's foldables in our interactive notebooks.

It's been interesting to say the least.  Everyone has been working at their own pace and for the most part, they have been doing a great job!  I have had some issues with filling out the foldables completely, but they are making a lot of progress.

This is my example for the kids to reference.

I met with my principal to complete my Post-Observation from my formal last week.  The lesson didn't go quite as I had planned, but I did get some good feedback from my principal! I love to hear the positive feedback about what's happening in my classroom.

We got a Chuy's here in Arkansas!  My hubby is from TX and we love Chuy's!

Our Friday night will be spent here!

What happened in your week?
